Hyperlite: Wakeboard Boot + Binding

2013 · Industrial design, Action sports

Wakeboarder in a life vest mid-air on a white Hyperlite board, spray flying behind him over a tree-lined lake

Project overview

A quick-release wakeboard boot and binding combo designed for rope-tow cable parks. With more parks like this being built, classic wakeboard binding systems introduced safety and usability challenges around quick board entry, board removal, and getting out of the water.

Key work

  • Audited the wakeboard and snowboard industry for ratchet, strap and highjack standards
  • Explored and tested various prototypes, collaborating closely with internal engineering teams to ensure safety and manufacturing standards were met
  • Worked through color, material and finish explorations, leveraging cross-industry research to propose treatments that were both functional and marketable
