FlockOS: Real-Time Crime Operations
2025 · Map UX, Real-time systems, Performance
Project overview
FlockOS is Flock Safety's map-based real-time crime operations platform, used by law enforcement and commercial teams across more than 5,000 communities. As design lead, I redesigned the core map experience for clearer cognition, faster response and better performance.
Key work
- Led design for the FlockOS map redesign on the Real Time team.
- Owned the core map experience: cameras, alerts, dispatch calls and live video in one view.
- Focused the redesign on clearer cognition, responsiveness and performance.
- Defined a phased approach to the research and development of this product, preparing the team for broad tech and map stack changes.
Who I designed for?
While FlockOS caters to commercial users as well, it was paramount to thoroughly research and test with users in Real Time Crime Centers, where speed and precision are crucial.

Information architecture
Part of this work was auditing the experience and defining information architecture changes that aimed to organize functions more logically, reduce cognitive load and clean up the interface for greater ease of use.

Map iconography
We researched and redesigned the icon system, with a goal of improving scan-ability and accessibility across all map styles.

Alert cards
A broad set of changes were applied to the alerts experience, resulting in a clean presentation of time-based events.

Map controls
Modernizing the map included applying industry standard controls in a compact, easy to use form.

Search
Search was also researched and refined, including updated UX and enhanced time-to-complete metrics.
